10 Fulfilling Hobbies to Try: Boost Your Creativity and Well-Being

I keep seeing so many “cool girl hobbies” everywhere and I’m so jealous, I would really love to have lots of hobbies, but it can be really expensive and daunting at first. So, I’ve made it my mission to explore some new hobbies over the past few weeks.

Exploring new hobbies can enrich your life, boost creativity, and enhance overall well-being. Here are ten engaging activities to consider:

1. Pottery

Pottery is very hands-on, and honestly can take a bit of muscle if you’re using a wheel. But my favourite part is always glazing. I love to use underglazes so that they work a bit more like acrylic paint. It’s great for adding intricate designs.  Pottery can be both therapeutic and rewarding, offering a functional approach to art. Handmade pottery is also a great gift idea. And the pieces you see at creative markets can sell for upwards of $70 (at least in my area).

2. Gym/Weightlifting

Honestly I probably only started weightlifting because I was so obsessed with the gym girl lifestyle all over my socials. But I’ve genuinely found it so rewarding. I will say that I think more girls should try weight training rather than cardio when they go to the gym, because this can be the most rewarding and enjoyable. Engaging in weightlifting improves physical strength, enhances mental discipline, and promotes overall health. It’s a fulfilling way to challenge yourself and you can really see your progress overtime.

3. Content Creation

I honestly love content creation (obvi, you’re literally reading my blog), but I think it can be scary to admit. A lot of the time you can feel judged. But honestly I’m a big believer in just giving it a go. Whether it’s blogging, vlogging, or podcasting, content creation enables you to share your passions and connect with a broader audience. It’s a platform to express creativity and establish an online presence.

4. Baking

Obviously baking is a pretty rewarding hobby, because you literally get a treat at the end. But I’ve really liked it even just to experiment and try new things. Recently, I made my own popcorn fudge which was amazing. I used to be big on listening to music while I bake, but now I think I just like the peace and quiet. Honestly, I’m really glad I’ve established a few activities to do away from screens. Because sometimes I feel like a kid who can get restless when they’ve been on their iPad too long.

5. Thrifting/Upcycling

Okay I’ve been really into thrifting for a while now. But I think it’s great for giving me my shopping fix without spending loads of money. Exploring thrift stores and upcycling finds into new creations is both eco-friendly and inventive. This hobby promotes sustainability and challenges you to see potential in overlooked items.

6. Jewellery Making

I was definitely an arts and crafts kid growing up, and I really still am. So I think jewellery making is perfect because you have a realistic use for your craft. Crafting your own jewellery offers a personalized touch to accessories. It allows for creativity in design and the satisfaction of wearing or gifting something uniquely handmade. Even if you were to experiment with keychains or trinkets, there’s a lot of value to find in this hobby.

7. Learning a Language

Acquiring a new language broadens cultural understanding and enhances cognitive abilities. It’s a valuable skill that can open up new opportunities and enrich travel experiences. I used to really love learning Spanish in high school, and I think I was too quick to give up on it. Some study methods I’ve loved have been reading short stories, or watching children’s TV shows in Spanish.

8. Puzzles and Board Games

Maybe I’ve just grown up in a board game family, but I do love a good puzzle or board game. Even just playing cards on my treadmill at the gym, I think I find a lot of value in it. And board games really are a lot less boring than they used to be. Some of my favourites to look into are CarcassonneKing of Tokyo, and Chameleon. Not to mention they can be a really good social activity to spend quality time with your family and friends. Engaging in puzzles and board games sharpens strategic thinking and provides social interaction. It’s a fun way to challenge the mind and enjoy quality time with others.

9. Bike Riding

I think riding your bike around the neighbourhood is something a lot of us haven’t done since we were kids, but it can be a really nice way to get out of the house. Personally, my bike was sitting in the garage for years. Pack a picnic and ride down to your local park.

10. Preserving Flowers

Pressing or drying flowers preserves their beauty and can be used in various crafts. It’s a delicate hobby that connects you with nature and allows for creative expression in art projects.

Hobbies really are the first thing we can let go of when life gets too stressful, and if you’re like me, you might notice you don’t really have any after a while. So putting some energy into rediscovering your favourite activities or hobbies is so rewarding. Let me know in the comments below any hobbies you’ve been into lately, or anything you’re wanting to try.
